I am of opinion that every newly

joining Medical Officer should do a course at the "Tropical School of Medicine" for he will at any rate learn the methods by which he may turn the material present in this particular Colony to use.

I do not think any bard and fast rule should be made with reference to Officers already in the Service at any rate in this Colony.

We are all of us surrounded with and treating far more material in a month than is ever seen at home in a year and I do not think we would derive much benefit from a short course of this kind.

What we require and what we practically. have to get at our own expense is a post-graduate course in general medicine, surgery, and bacteriology and if the Colony is to be charged with fees for perfecting us in our profession when at home on leave I would strongly suggest we be allowed to take out such a course more especially is a surgical course required as those of us who are in charge here at this hospital are frequently called upon to do specialists work at home and it is most difficult to learn the steps of an operation from books or journals.

I have etc.,
